Hello everyone!

I've been trying to catch up on some things and I found this post I had saved to finish later. Only, it's much later. Oops! Anyway... I thought it sounded fun so here we are! A little bit of diversion!

 ~What is one of your favorite period drama lines that you find yourself quoting often?
"Yes, I would love some tea-yes-thank you-LEMON!" - Norman Warne (From the movie Miss Potter. One of my favorites.)

 ~What was the last book you read?
An Old Fashioned Girl, by L.M. Alcott

 ~What was the best movie you saw in 2014?
How to Train Your Dragon 2. I had no idea from the title of those movies that they would be so good. I was pleasantly and hysterically surprised. :)

 ~Who is one of your least-favorite period drama couples?
hmmm... Probably Pip and Stella from Great Expectations. They're quite aggravating.

 ~Who is the one period drama man you can most imagine yourself marrying? (This doesn't have to be your favorite literary/period drama hero, just the man you think you would be most suited to.)
Mr. Knightly of course! Although Raoul from Phantom of the Opera is a very close second :)

 ~ What is your favorite time period and culture to read about?
1800's U.K., America and Europe, Medieval Scotland (Has anyone else read The Scottish Chiefs by Jane Porter? ♥)

 ~Are you familiar with the Irish music group Celtic Woman? If so, who is your favorite of the singers?
This is a rather random question. ha ha! I have heard them but am not familiar with the singers. But I think they're voices (and hair) are beautiful. A celtic singer I really like is Julie Fowlis.

 ~What is one of your all-time favorite book covers?

 ~Is there a specific period drama/literary character whom you often find yourself quoting?

Pride and Prejudice in general... most often Mrs. Bennet  :)

 ~Is there a specific period drama/literary character whom you find yourself acting a lot like sometimes?
Anne Shirley and Bilbo. I've got a comfortable homebody Baggins side as well as an adventurous Tookish side which comes out every now and then. And Anne happens to be rather the same!

I don't know what I shall do yet... I suppose it depends on who may knock on my door today...

The View from Fanny Simpleton's Neck of the Woods

 Let me tell you a story...

 One particularly cold, rainy, gloomy, March day at my home, Rise and Shine Farm.. I walked stiffly down the road to the mailbox.

I glumly opened it, not expecting anything but bills or advertisements. And Lo and Behold! Sunshine shone right out of it! For inside, there was a package. Not just any package of garish orangey-brown paper, but a Large, bright, pink package with stickers and handwriting that I could recognize anywhere. A package from my dear friend, Jean of Windy Pines.

At first I thought, "Oh! I must wait to open it on a brighter day so that I can take pictures and show it off to everyone!" And then I thought, "What?! Wait? I can't do that! I must open it RIGHT THIS MINUTE! I cannot wait!" And so, reader, I did. And the next few minutes.. ok, maybe closer to hours... were spent so delightfully perusing this beautiful handmade book over and over again.

Spring had at last come. 

And I got to meet the enchanting Miss Fanny Simpleton for the first time...

And hear all about the happenings at Windy Pines...

Happy, happy day!!

{Started over at the beginning several times...}

Miss Jean's cottage is always decorated so charmingly. It is like walking into a storybook.

It is an accordion style book and has not one, but two sides to goggle at.

Sometimes I think... we must be kindred spirits... I do believe I will have that cup of tea first.

So I had to write a thank you note while I ate my Easter chocolate. :)

 She is such a fun and talented person! Creativity simply pours out of her! And what a kind thought to send me and my friends at Rise and Shine Farm a handmade gift! {You are too kind Miss Jean!}

Pride and Prejudice: 200 years

 "It is a truth uni­ver­sally ac­know­ledged, that a single man in pos­ses­sion of a good for­tune, must be in want of a wife.”- Jane Austen (The opening words from her 2nd novel, Pride and Prejudice.)

Today, January 28, 2013, is the 200th anniversary of when Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice was first published.

It is a delightful story and a wonderful book.

One of the most loveable and quotable movies I've ever seen.

My favorite happens to be The 1995 A&E miniseries. But I really do love them all.

 It is our most favorite "sewing movie" because we've seen it so many times that we can turn it on and sew for hours and know exactly what's going on even without looking. It's beautiful and pleasant and the costumes are so inspiring.

 I also love the music.
And of course we had the 6 VHS set which had the Main Theme and Credits before AND after each episode. So it is one that I've heard many, MANY times. =]
It has so many memories attached to it... Tea parties, sewing days and movie nights with friends are what come to mind.
And notably...
Aunt K. singing "SLUUUUUUMBER DE-A' MAAAID...." which had all of us laughing hysterically and then running out of the room when certain brothers creeped us all out by doing the Mr. Collins wave. (You know who you are.)  :)

Ha ha! I thought this picture from Old Fashioned Charm was great (and oh-so-creepy)!

One day I'd love to make a doll size regency dress, maybe even a replica of one from the movie.
I am particularly fond of this costume:

Well, I hope everyone already loves this story as much as I do and if you haven't read or watched it yet, then you are in for an unparallelled pleasure!

sewing, sewing...

Here's a peek at what I've been sewing...  I'm making a late 1840's afternoon dress.

I've had the fabric for a long time and I've always known exactly what I wanted to make with it... So, I finally started it. The skirt is finished. *sigh*... :)

Besides my love of this era of fashion, my inspiration came from a paper doll book I have.

(Which you can find here on Amazon.)

The dolls and dresses in it are the original drawings from the magazines and so completely historically wonderful!

I was also inspired by this dress from Cranford worn by the inimitable Miss Pole.

 And the dresses from Martin Chuzzlewit.

And because I couldn't resist this picture.. My two favorite characters in Martin Chuzzlewit. =]

Sarie Gamp and Betsy Prigg

Oh, so funny! Elizabeth Spriggs is one of my most favorite actresses in the world. (She's on the left -- you probably know her as Mrs. Jennings from Sense and Sensibility -- but might not recognize her with that "..'eavenly dispogition..." as she would say.)  She is so brilliantly funny!
And that Mr. Dickens.. I declare!

I am busily working on my dress and am happy to say it is coming along nicely. I can't wait to show it to you!

Hello my merry friends!

Summer Reading...

I'm still reading this lovely book month by month and enjoying every little detail!

It has even inspired me to paint and I am copying, as best I can, one of the watercolors.

I also just finished Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. 

So good. So, indescribably good. You must read it.

As Anne would say, speaking of bright Autumn leaves, "Don't they give you a thrill Marilla? Several thrills?".

I am very thrilled to start the next book in the series!
