A long absence...

Hello my dears!

Happy Tasha Tudor Day!

I always think of this blog and all of you on Tasha Tudor Day. We've had some lovely ones together! So I thought, what better day than this to take up my pen, as it were, to say a little hello to you! 

It has been much, much too long! 13 months since my last post! That is the longest break I've ever taken from blogging. I do apologize.

I have finally begun a Regency Era outfit! Here is what I have so far!

Just the petticoat! But it is hand sewn. *oh happiness!*

This blog has been so fun for me! And I intend to continue to blog. Whether it will be more often or not... I cannot say.  Life is busy and I treasure these moments when I do get to do things like blog. The point is... I still do enjoy it very much and will continue to post.  I hope you enjoy it as much.

It is not for profit, nor for education... simply for a bit of fun and diversion! Therefore, I will be here occasionally pasting up photos or short stories or poems and any other thing that i find amusing and uplifting. I hope you will enjoy it and let me know if you do have any ideas or suggestions of what you would like to see.

This is not just my blog either. Although i am the one who does most of the posting. If you are a member of this blog (you know who you are...) please feel free to post directly on the blog. I'd love to see what you've been up to! Or if you're not a member and have a similar interest in historical dolls or the like, leave a link in the comments and we would love to see what you do!

I've been pinning things...

...Not dress seams like I was supposed to do today... I've been "pinning" pictures. Photos from the 1840's-1860's. I know. I've been naughty. But wait till you see the photos. :)

I am utterly in love with these beautiful photos.
You can see the pictures of girls with dolls I pinned HERE. And the portraits HERE. They are all so amazing. I'm looking for ideas...

Wash Day

There's nothing like doing your laundry on a sunny, Summer day and letting the clean linens billow in the breeze. 

 Aren't the tiny clothespins darling?

And, you should have seen the color of the water after I had washed all the clothes. 

Oh my! It was filthy I tell you! 

I had no idea doll clothes could get so dirty. I was quite shocked. But then, when I thought about all the traveling and long walks in the rain and not to mention just plain dust... it started making sense. 

 Afterwords, my clothes looked so much better and smelled so good from being dried on the line. It was all together a very pleasant experience.

daydreaming...

 Thinking is more possible if attempted whilst upside down I've found. 

Unladylike posture? Yes, indeed. And that is why it is the most fun in my own room. 

And from that perspective, I can see mostly white walls in my room. 

So.. I've decided to remedy that.

Emaline's "Bosom Friend" - Finished!

ANNE: "My greatest wish, apart from staying at Green Gables, would be to have a bosom friend."
MARILLA: "A what kind of friend?"
ANNE: "A bosom friend; a really kindred spirit. I've dreamt of meeting her all my life."

   I love this quote from Anne of Green Gables. And Marilla's face when she says it! Oh, it's too precious!
 
 I have finished my Winter Accessory Craft-Along Project! Hooray! Hooray!
 I am quite tickled and pleased with how it turned out!

I did block it, but I only used 3 pins because it knitted so well into the right shape already.

Since I used a shawl pattern, I added braided ties and tassels (yay!), and then poked them through the holes in the middle, at the point and tied them in a bow to make it into a Heart Warmer. (Oh! I just can't decide what name I like the best! They're all so charming!)

I love this yarn so much! And now I have a "bosom friend" to be with me all the time! he he!

And speaking of bosom friends...  I have been reading the Anne of Green Gables series and I am absolutely in love with them!
Especially the first book. It is out of a dream!
 And... look what I found! My favorite part in Anne of Avonlea. Well, the whole movie is practically my favorite part, but you know how that goes... :)
Here it is... (watch from 2:58) Where Anne and Marilla are reunited. So wonderful! Makes me cry every time.

Well, I hope everyone has enjoyed this little craft along as much as I have. It certainly gave me a boost on some projects I've wanted to make for a long time!

We are certainly not done yet! There are still quite a few good days left in March, so if you haven't added your accessory yet, please do! We'd love to see them!

And now.... since March is departing and Winter is dwindling... I am thinking of what we should do next!

1840 Day dress

Finished and complete. I'm very happy with the way this dress turned out, as I hope are you. It was a very fun dress to make with no major hiccups. :) The rouching, pleating, tucks, eyelets and lace took time to do, but they made the project so much fun! And it is so perfect for Spring! It makes me feel like Spring is not so far off after all. :)

 I love how this picture below turned out.

 

Before, I had said this dress was late 1840's but in fact it is closer to being a style from the late 1830's-1840. Like these two below.

This dress below is more like late 1840s. Longer waist and more fitted sleeves. Aren't these dresses gorgeous? I love seeing the real dresses from the eras don't you?

However, I hardly ever dress in the style that is the most current... It always takes me a couple years to get accustomed to a look before I start liking it. So, I suppose it all works out in the end. :)

I have also made a belt to wear with my dress and have made over my bonnet to match. I will be posting those in the near future.

Gardening

 Hello my friends. If you've been wondering where I've been, I've been gardening.

And making dresses out of strips of fabric and scarves. That's what this ensemble is.

 I was inspired by the costumes in an episode from Larkrise to Candleford. Season 3, Episode 4. To be exact. One of the sadder, better and more moving episodes.

 However... I was quite joyful and full of glee whilst working away in the flower beds.

 Here is a wooden wheelbarrow that my Great Grandpa made. It has a cast iron wheel. Isn't it beautiful?
