over-alls and fish

It's Summertime...
D'ya wanna go fishin'?

Here's my fishin' theme music. One of my all time favorites.
(Fishin' Blues - Taj Mahal)

Finally! I have a new finished project to share with you!
Overalls always make me think of my "Grampa". They make me happy. =]

So, I made some 1920's inspired overalls out of some old, holey jeans, hairpins for the buckles and little craft buttons that are just the right size and still work!

The shirts I made out of some old flannel pajamas. Hers is a half button down, His is a full button up with a shirt-tail hem.

What have you been doing this Summer?

Best regards,
Alice and Morogh

Gardening

Hello my friends. If you've been wondering where I've been, I've been gardening.
And making dresses out of strips of fabric and scarves. That's what this ensemble is.
I was inspired by the costumes in an episode from Larkrise to Candleford. Season 3, Episode 4. To be exact. One of the sadder, better and more moving episodes.
However... I was quite joyful and full of glee whilst working away in the flower beds.
Here is a wooden wheelbarrow that my Great Grandpa made. It has a cast iron wheel. Isn't it beautiful?
Taking a rest in the shade.
 Happy late summer!
I hope everyone is enjoying these last warm summery days to their full advantage.
I know I'll do my best to! It's such a lovely time of year.
 Love, Emaline

through snowy woods...

 Morogh Findlay Llewellyn Barr....
Do you notice anything different about him? Perhaps it will come to you by the end of the post. :)
Well, just as I had said in my February post, We have had extremely different kinds of weather. It had been quite warm for a couple days and then suddenly, several inches of snow! We were very delighted since we have had only about an inch since Thanksgiving. Morogh was especially delighted! He simply loves cold weather. Silly fellow! As you can see, the snow was well past his knees. But he would choose now to go seek out an adventure.
Morogh loves nothing better than a challenge of the elements.

Gaining the vantage point to gaze thoughtfully and muse on the deep snow that covers everything in quiet beauty.
Here is his new sgian-dubh made so expertly by my very clever nephew.
Thank you my good, brave lad!
Here is the sporran I made for him. It's made of leather and waxed sinew and a metal chain.

Here he is looking out from his camping spot. His next task will be finding dry wood for a fire, should his limbs need thawing at the end of the day.

And in case you haven't guessed yet... The difference in Morogh's appearance is his eyebrows! The poor laddie had no eyebrows to speak of and I could not abide it any longer!
{before}
 {after}
So, I gave him some eyebrows. Beautiful, rich, expressive, manly eyebrows.
Thank you for coming my courageous companions! Maybe next time we'll have haggis.
Slainte,
Emaline

a rainy day

There's nothing quite like staying at home on a rainy day. The world outside is chill and wet and the rain seems to drizzle endlessly.

Inside it is still and cozy and the light which comes from the windows is bright and cold.

The only thing to do on this sort of day is to muse calmly, while nestled under many blankets, drinking steaming hot tea and knitting just for the pleasure of it.

The attic, which usually makes you think of cobwebs, old boxes of baby clothes and the need of organization, now looks quite inviting...

and with the large windows overlooking the pond it is the perfect spot for watching the rain drops fall while eating fudge and doing absolutely nothing.

Every once in while a carriage might drive by and for a moment you wonder, "What can they be thinking of, being out and about in such weather?"

And then dismiss the thought and calmly resume your handwork thinking, "Such a lovely day...".

I hope you have a lovely day too. =]
Love, Miss Emaline
